Flyball is a relay race between two competing teams with four dogs on each team. The course consists of a start/finish line, four hurdles spaced ten feet apart with the first hurdle six feet from the start/finish line and a box which is fifteen feet from the last hurdle; for a fifty-one foot overall length.
The dogs, racing against the other team, jump the four hurdles and strides on to a spring loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dogs must catch and return with the tennis ball over all four hurdles to the start/finish line where the next dog eagerly awaits. The first team to have all four dogs run without fault wins the heat.
Flyball is a sport in which any dog can participate, regardless of breed, shape, size or formal training. It encompasses all things dogs love such as chasing, jumping, catching, retrieving and striving to please their owners. Unlike other dog activities, Flyball is pure fun for spectators, handlers and especially the dogs!!!
Just look at the dogs, waiting for their turn to run, with sheer exhilaration on their faces.
